‘thoughts’

Trowa sat around in the theatre where the tryouts for his latest musical were going to be occurring and smirked.  His girlfriend, Gen, came over to him, slipping onto his lap with a smile as she watched the incoming people. “This should be a fun one this time, lover,” she stated with a grin as she turned to look at him.

He smiled softly at her and nodded. “Yes it will be, especially with you directing the music,” he purred with a sly grin.

She chuckled softly and retorted, “Alright, we can play tonight…” She smiled indulgently and he laughed.

Suddenly, a loud cackling laugh echoed in the theatre and Gen giggled. “Oh great.  The Maxwell twins are here,” Trowa groaned with a grin as a girl with shoulder length brown hair ran in, and then turned around quickly.

“Hey Wufei! You know what they say about China men!  All brain and no…ACK!” the girl squeaked as a growling Chinese youth came barreling at her.  She dodged him laughing and ran down the stairs to the stage.

Another young man with a long braid laughed as he came at a more leisurely pace down the stairs. “Better watch it Rhia! You know what happens when he gets into his justice mode!” he called out and she burst out laughing again as Wufei turned to glare at the braided youth.

“Alright you three, knock it off or do we have to cast you as minors?” Trowa called out as he rubbed Gen’s knee and grinned.  The two Maxwells waved cheerfully to Trowa while Wufei scowled irritably at them.

Plopping down in the front row as they watched other people come in, the twins made comments as they waited for the auditions to start.  Suddenly, Duo stared at the entrance.  His sister looked over his shoulder as he whispered, “Hottie at ten o’clock.”

She whapped him lightly on the arm. “Shaaaare!” she cried with a grin.  He grinned back at her, but then turned to look at the man walking down the stairs and sat in the far corner of the second row.  He was fairly tall and had a mop of brown hair that was constantly getting pushed out of his eyes.  Even from this distance, they could tell he was well built, but slender.  His face though held a slight frown, looking to be intimidating as well as inconspicuous.  His black silk shirt and tight jeans showed off just what they had deduced, tight and muscular.  Rhianna grinned as she wiped her brother’s chin. “Watch it Duo, or you’ll drool all over yourself!” she commented with a giggle.

Duo grinned back and they went back to looking around the theatre.  But Duo’s eyes kept on traveling back to the youth that had captured his interest. He failed to catch, however, the cobalt eyes that watched him in turn when he wasn’t looking.

Trowa and Gen went up to the front of the theatre and looked out at the gathered group.  “Alright, let’s get this on the move!” Trowa commented in a firm voice, hushing the chatters.  Gen hid a smile behind her hand at this.  Her boyfriend was normally quite soft-spoken most of the time.  Except when he was in charge.  Then, he knew when to be tough.  Trowa glanced over at her with a grin, then looked back out at the crowd, pushing his hair out of his face. “Thank you all for coming.  I’d like to be able to use such a large group, but these auditions will be for the main parts.  You will need to at least know how to sing, do some dancing, and, of course, act.” A few chuckles and giggles answered him and he smirked.  “First, we’ll have the voice auditions.  Everyone should have brought a piece of their own.  You can give them to Gen and she will play the piano underneath.  We only need to hear about a verse or two, so if you were thinking of serenading us with your dulcet tones, sorry to disappoint you.”

“Oh darn! And here I was hoping to hear Wufei warble through a whole song of ‘Wannabe’ by the Spice Girls!” Rhianna’s voice floated out sassily and the group laughed as Wufei growled at her.

“Better ‘Wannabe’ than ‘Man! I Feel Like a Woman’!” Wufei shot back and smirked as Duo slashed the air with a finger, awarding him a point.

Rhianna grinned and was about to say something when Trowa cleared his voice.  She meeped and slid down in her seat, then vanished from sight with a loud “OW!” as she slid to the floor.  She popped back up and rubbed her elbow as laughter greeted her return.

Trowa chuckled softly, then resumed, “Once the singing auditions are over with, we shall go over some of the parts for acting quality.  And no, Hamlet and Romeo and Juliet will not be the subjects of matter this night.”  Loud sighs of relief were heard from the twins and he glared good-naturedly at them.  “We will try to give as many of you as possible parts, but, if you don’t get one, we would love to have you backstage as well or in the orchestra.  Our director for the pit will be Quatre, who is...” He was stopped as a voice floated down.

“I’m here!  Sheesh you’ve got to LOVE traffic and ACK GAH RHIANNA!” The blond pit director disappeared behind some seats as the bouncy brunette tackled him.  His protests were cut off abruptly and a loud moan was heard.  Wufei grabbed his nose in a panic and Trowa chuckled.

“Rhianna!  If you don’t MIND we’d like to NOT KNOW WHAT GOES ON IN YOUR FREE TIME!!” Wufei shouted and everyone started laughing as her head popped up, followed by a dazed looking blond head.

“Aw you’re just jealous, Fei!” Rhianna replied cheerfully as she bounced down with Quatre in tow.  Quatre just chuckled as he was dragged to the front, sat down, and then held a purring Maxwell in his lap.

Trowa chuckled again and shook his head as he heard Gen say softly, “Remind me to make sure we don’t put sugar near her or Duo.  I forgot how dangerously hyper they can be!”

Trowa grinned at her and watched her climb onto the stage, his eyes never leaving her backside as she sauntered over to the piano and played a soft arpeggio in warm-up.  He turned to look back at the group and felt his eyebrow twitch as he saw Duo tease Quatre about his teddy bear looks. ‘Yea, but this is how they are NORMALLY,’ he thought to himself and sighed softly.

“Ok people!  Let’s get started!” he ordered in a firm tone and everyone focused on him.  Even though they goofed around, he did have to admit that the Maxwell twins were probably the best pair that he had worked with ever….except for his girlfriend of course.  “We’ll start off alphabetically.  So, Darla Abbottein, you’re up!” he called and a tall blonde stepped forward, carrying herself like she ruled the stage.  He sighed again. ‘Not her again.  And I thought Wufei’s singing was bad.  He’s a saint compared to her,’ he thought with a carefully hidden grimace crossing his features briefly before she came near him.  She winked in what was supposed to be an alluring wink, but looked like a cross between a chimpanzee and a duck scrunching their faces together and doing the same thing.  He sighed softly and looked back at Gen, who was obviously hiding her amusement as she looked at the music set before her.  Looking over at the blonde primadonna, she smirked, then started to fluidly play the music.

Trowa went over by Quatre, who had managed to cajole Rhianna out of his lap so he could do his job, and chuckled as he heard a sigh emerge from the blond. “Why does she keep trying, Trowa?” Quatre whispered softly, not appearing to be talking as they politely listened as she sang, hitting several wrong notes, hanging onto the long high notes for too long, and finding herself in two keys lower than when she had started.

“Because she has to try and steal me from Gen, remember?” Trowa murmured back as he took down a note or two to make it seem like he cared about what the woman was doing.

Quatre snorted softly and sighed in misery as she hit an extremely flat A for her crooning note.

Rhianna looked around the theatre and declared softly, “Yeup, I think it’s official, bro.  You’ll be getting the lead.”

Wufei snorted as Duo grinned at her.  “Yea whatever, Maxwell.  You know that he has competition,” Wufei stated snidely and looked stuck up, nose in the air and arms crossed.

Snorting back at him, Rhianna leaned over and retorted just as snidely, “Yea, you’re right.  That new kid is a new addition.  He just may give my brother a run….or a hard on, depending on the day.” Wufei’s eyes widened slightly as Duo smacked her upside the head. “OW! Jeez, Duo you’ve got a nasty…..oooo, he’s watching you, Duo!” she cried excitedly and he whipped his head around, and then looked back quickly, blushing.

She had been right.  For a second, violet eyes met with curious cobalt eyes and had locked.  Duo didn’t see the satisfied smirk that crossed the impassive face as he stared intently at the front while Wufei went up for his chance.

No matter what Rhianna had said, Duo knew as well as she that Wufei actually had an excellent voice.  He sang a gentle lullaby from a musical, letting a soft loving tone thread through it as he sang about a child’s dreams.  Rhianna clapped the loudest as she booed, mixing her jabs at him as he came back down with a smug smirk.

Finally, it was Duo’s turn.  He climbed up the stairs and found himself, for the first time, nervous.  He looked out at the crowd and smirked as his sister waved cheerfully from the front row, encouraging him thusly.  He looked over at Gen and nodded once, then turned back and waited for his cue.  “Oh thinking about our younger years….it was only you and me….we were young and wild and free….Now, nothing can take you away from me…..we’ve been down that road before….but that’s over now….keep me coming back for more…..Baby you’re all that I want…when you’re lying here in my arms….I’m finding hard to believe we’re in Heaven….” He sang in a strong tenor, letting his feelings thread through into the words.  He found himself looking over at the man who had caught his interest and found himself locked in an impenetrable gaze.

Finishing his song, Duo went back down into the audience to a spattering of appreciative applause.  He watched with a grin as his sister went up and began to sing ‘A New Day Has Come’.  But he couldn’t focus on her.  Instead, his eyes went surreptitiously over to where the mystery man was sitting.  The other man was watching his sister and he sighed softly in sadness. ‘Damn….he must be straight.  A guy that hot has to be,’ he thought in disappointment, then refocused up as Rhianna plopped down next to him and grinned.  She looked over at the other guy, then back at Duo. “Hmmm….wonder what his name is?” she wondered softly and Duo looked at her, shrugging.

Several other people went up, and then Trowa called, “Ok, Heero Yuy. You’re up.”  Duo looked over in shock as the object of his hormonal desires walked gracefully up to the stage.  The man handed over his music to Gen, who cocked an eyebrow in surprise.  She shrugged, then started to play.

Duo leaned forward as the man, Heero, started to sing in a soft, yet strong baritone. “This used to be my playground…this used to be my childhood dream…this used to the place I ran too….whenever I was in need…of a friend….why did it have to end? And why do they always say….don’t look back…..Keep your head held high…..don’t ask her why because… life is short….and before you know….you’re feeling old…and your heart is breaking….don’t hold onto the past….but that’s too much to ask….” The notes rang out in a haunting way, made more real as Heero closed his eyes as he sang, letting his feelings come through the words.  He finished his part and silence greeted him.  He blushed slightly, then started to walk away when applause and whistles echoed around him.  He looked up and blinked in embarrassment as he was applauded and saw that Trowa was talking animatedly with Quatre, who was nodding and smiling.

He walked down the stairs of the stage and sat down.  He felt eyes on him and looked over to see the one named Duo staring at him in awe.  The longhaired man blinked then gave a thumbs up in approval.  Heero let a small smile cross his lips and nodded back, then settled back to watch the last of the auditions try out.  But his eyes kept on going back to the other man.  He smiled slightly to himself. ‘And here I thought moving here would be a bad idea.  Maybe it won’t be so bad after all,’ Heero thought to himself and smirked as he listened to Rhianna tease the man named Wufei as he went up to the stage with Duo.  Heero got up as well and headed for the stage for the second part of the auditions.

“Hey Wufei!  Make sure you don’t trip this time!” Rhianna called out, backed up by some snickering.

Wufei glared at her, then tripped slightly on the top step. Laughter surrounded him and Duo snickered as he helped the other man up.  Growling, Wufei glared at the girl. “Maxwell!”

Both of them replied, “What?!”

Wufei flushed slightly and said, “Onna Maxwell!”  Laughter and catcalls were by now echoing loudly around the theatre.

Rhianna stood up and, with a valley girl accent, started to twirl a piece of her hair and stated, “Um my naame is not onna…it’s Rhianna”

Duo had to grab his waist he was laughing so hard as Wufei growled at her and growled through clenched teeth, “Stop wishing me luck, ONNA! You’re bringing me BAD LUCK!”  Duo licked the tip of his finger and slashed the air with two marks, awarding Rhianna two points as she crowed in triumph.

Heero watched this with an amused smirk, then looked up as Trowa came down with a weary grin.  “Alright alright.  Knock it off you three.  Or do I have to put you in a corner and make sure you get timeouts?” he asked with a smirk.  Rhianna meeped from the front row and sunk down again. Duo and Wufei grinned at Trowa, then took the books handed them.  Trowa smirked again as he handed out the books to each of the males and instructed, “The parts have been marked.  We’ll have you go in pairs.  Let’s start out with Wufei and Markus.”  The others nodded and stepped aside, watching as the two started to read the parts.

Duo had to smirk.  Wufei was his best friend and he knew that Fei had a part.  It was just an amusing game for his sister to tease the living hell out of the Chinese man. The next pair went, then Duo found himself standing before Heero.  His heart almost stopped as those cobalt eyes locked with his own in an intense gaze.  He opened his mouth and swallowed hard.  Heero smiled softly and murmured, “Breathe.  I don’t bite.”

A whoosh of air left the braided man’s mouth and he grinned nervously. “Alright…after you since you start first,” he stated softly back and Heero nodded.

“How is it that someone like you would know what I feel?  Do you know what losing is? Do you, in your naiveté, think to tell me how to live my life?” Heero asked in angry tones, letting himself fall into his act.

“I do not think to tell you how to live.  Only tell me…do you know of love?  Do you know the beauty of a sunrise through another’s eyes?  What say you of knowing someone as soon as you look into their eyes?” Duo retorted as he placed a hand over his heart, letting his voice choke slightly with false emotion as he looked at Heero.

“What I know of that is what I have experienced.” Heero’s voice lowered and softened as he stepped towards Duo, eyes smoldering.  Duo gulped slightly as he looked at Heero approaching. Everyone was watching the two intensely as they performed, not sure if it was an act or not. “I experience it night and day, whenever I am near the one I desire.” Heero’s voice became deeper, inviting.

Duo swallowed and asked, “And who is this one?  Do they know what it means to fly through the clouds?” He gazed into Heero’s eyes, finding himself lost in the orbs that held his own.

Heero smiled softly. “Yes….they do,” he replied in a sultry voice.  They looked into each other’s eyes, then Duo looked down at the book with a swallow and blinked.

“That’s great you two!  Next pair!” Trowa called and Duo blinked again.  The tension between the two actors was quite intense, but Heero seemed to have already broken the hold that had held them both so strongly.  Duo swallowed hard again and took a deep breath as he followed Heero off the stage, liking the view he had of the tight ass.  He sank down into his seat next to Rhianna and sighed heavily.

“Wow, bro.  You two were like…having verbal sex up there or something!  I’ve never felt so much sexual tension!  Nice act!” she cried and bounced.  Duo grinned weakly at her, then watched as she went up with the women.

Wufei smirked as he leaned in towards Duo. “It wasn’t an act, was it Maxwell?” he stated in a matter of fact tone.

Duo looked at him and nervously smiled.  His eyes traveled over towards Heero and then looked at Wufei again. “No….it wasn’t Fei,” was all he said and Wufei smirked.

“Bout time, baka,” Wufei muttered as he sank back into his seat.  Duo chuckled softly as he looked at his best friend.

‘Yea….bout time it wasn’t an act,’ Duo thought to himself in anticipation, not seeing the cobalt eyes that watched him from afar.
