'thoughts'
Sam walked down the halls of the SG-C, thoughtfully chewing
on a pencil as she gazed at the papers in her hands. Her report was due in from
their last mission and she was still wondering about some of the things they'd
seen. They still were searching for allies to join them in their battles against
the Goa'uld, but it was a tough journey. She rubbed her hand over her eyes and
sighed softly. 'One of these times we aren't going to get back. Someone is
watching over us, that is for sure,' she thought tiredly, grinning at the idea
that there were *real* higher beings. Not some aliens that claimed to be higher
beings.
She chuckled softly and shook her head as she came to
Hammond's office and knocked on it. She entered when she heard him call out, and
then stopped, blinking in surprise. "Oh, I'm sorry sir! I thought I could drop
this off for my debriefing," she said, standing back as she saw that the General
had a visitor.
"Don't worry about it, Major. Major Carter, I'd like you to
meet the newest member of this facility. Dr. Jenna Carter. She will be taking
over for Dr. Fraser," Hammond replied amiably, gesturing to the young blonde
woman who sat before him.
Blinking in shock, Carter turned and stared at the woman as
she stood up. "Oh my god! It can't be!" she cried in joy.
"Sam! Oh I thought I'd never see you again!" The young
woman, Jenna, ran forward, hugging Sam tightly, who returned the hug joyfully.
"What are you doing here?! Wait, how's Uncle Derek and Aunt
Sera?" Sam asked, and then frowned as she saw the distressed look in the green
eyes before her.
"You didn't hear, did you? Mama and papa are…are dead, as
is Gus," Jenna responded softly, blinking back tears.
"Oh sweetie…I'm so sorry. What happened? How long?" Carter
whispered gently before hugging her cousin tightly. She looked over and pulled
back, saluting. "Sir! Sorry sir," she explained sheepishly, grinning as Jenna
giggled and wiped her eyes.
"Well, no need to think you need to be introduced. I'll
just let you two go. Jenna is here assigned from the President himself. She's
the main geneticist that has been working on stabilizing the tretonin for Teal'c
and the other Jaffa," Hammond answered amiably, smiling as Sam glanced at her
cousin in surprise.
"Yes. It's difficult though and I finally twisted enough
arms to find out what it was based upon. We are very close to synthesizing the
proper ingredients, but I wanted to speak to Mister Teal'c and get his help,"
Jenna explained, beaming at her cousin.
"That's…that's great, Jenna! Teal'c will be so happy!"
Carter cried with a laugh as she wrapped her arm around her cousin's shoulders.
"Well, why don't you two go and Major Carter can show you
the base?" Hammond requested with a chuckle as he sat back down. He chuckled
again as Sam hastily put the file folder onto his desk before leading her cousin
out eagerly, chattering the whole way. He shook his head and began looking over
the report.
Carter laughed as she and Jenna talked, heading for Jenna's
new quarters. "I can't believe that they let you in! I'm so proud of you!" she
exclaimed again as she hugged her cousin's shoulders.
"Thanks. General Hammond was just informing me on what goes
on here. I'm so stunned! And excited…is it really true you get to see lots of
new worlds?" Jenna asked, her eyes all but shining with excitement as she looked
up at her cousin.
Laughing again, Sam nodded enthusiastically. "Maybe you can
come with us even! I'm sure you'll be working with the other medical staff on
this stuff," she explained as they went down a hall.
"Oh sure…and you too! I got a new project to make a better
communications link via implants. He mentioned something about the…Tok'ra?"
Jenna stumbled a bit on the word, blinking.
"Oh yea! That'll be great! Dad will be thrilled!" Sam cried
enthusiastically as she opened the door to Jenna's new rooms.
"Speaking of him…why would Uncle Jacob be interested in
these…um, Tok'ra? And where has he been? Everyone was really upset that none of
your family came to the f-funeral," Jenna inquired, blinking rapidly as she
looked away.
"Oh sweetie. I'm so sorry. Want to talk about it? And I'll
explain everything," Sam murmured gently as she went to her cousin and hugged
her gently. She ran her fingers soothingly through the blonde hair as her cousin
started crying softly, hanging onto the Major desperately. They talked for a
couple of hours, then took a break to tour the compound before going to lunch.
Neither of them noticed the looks they earned as they chattered and laughed,
catching up with the other on news. Even while eating, they talked and laughed,
making comments about different situations the other had been in.
Unexpectedly, three figures sat with them in the lunchroom
and they stopped in surprise. Jack cocked an eyebrow at them as he leaned his
chin on his hand, eyes filled with interest. "So…want to introduce your chummy
new friend?" he asked cheerfully, ignoring the roll of eyes from Daniel and
Teal'c's small smile of amusement.
Clearing her throat with a smirk, Sam cocked an eyebrow
back as she gestured to Jenna. "This is my cousin, Jenna Carter. She's joining
the Star gate program to help out with a new device for communications as well
as the tretonin," she replied with a beaming smile at her cousin. "Jenna…this is
Colonel Jack O'Neil, Dr. Daniel Jackson, and Teal'c."
"Oh! Are they really?! Oh it's an honor to meet you three!
Especially you, Mr. Teal'c!" Jenna exclaimed excitedly as she clasped hands with
each of them. Her eyes shone with excitement as she looked at each of them. "Oh
I've heard so much about you! Mr. Teal'c…is it true that you had a creature
within you?" she asked as she got up immediately and sat beside him. It was a
rather amusing sight since she was only 5'4" and rather petite, compared to the
much larger Jaffa.
Teal'c cocked an eyebrow at her as he bowed his head
slightly. "It is indeed true, Miss Jenna. I lived much of my life with a
symbiote," he intoned softly, yet deeply.
"Oh what was that like? We've had to study them in trying
to get the tretonin under control, but it's so hard with simulations. And I
refused to use actual specimens since they are alive and all…" Jenna continued
talking, eyes wide with excitement as she spoke with the quiet Jaffa.
Jack stared at Jenna as she continued to fire questions at
Teal'c, then turned to Carter. "Is she always like this?" he asked in disbelief.
"Only when she is excited," Sam replied as she smiled in
amusement. "And being with her only family as well as the ones she's been trying
to help is *very* exciting for her. Just don't get her started on history and
fantasy. Then she gets very talkative."
"Heaven forbid…" Jack muttered while Daniel covered his
mouth and chuckled softly. They listened as Teal'c and Jenna continued talking,
the Jaffa's eyes soft with respect as he answered questions, which showed his
trust.
Finally, Sam got up and cleared her throat. "Come on,
Jenna. You have to still meet Dr. Keas and then see the gate," she suggested
with a grin.
"Oh yes! I want to see that! Do you think I could go with
you on your next mission?" Jenna's voice faded as she left the room with her
cousin, practically bouncing.
Jack turned to the other two and rolled his eyes while they
smiled. "Things are going to be interesting," he muttered before going back to
his eating.

Jenna and Sam were bent over a workbench, both blonde heads
touching as they examined a small box on the tabletop. Wires and microchips were
strewn all over the top as they discussed what connections could be made in the
small box.
"What if you put this chip in here and connected these…"
Sam muttered softly as she put actions to words. She slipped in a microchip into
the box before connecting the required wires.
"No…it's giving feedback," Jenna whispered softly as she
reached in with her tweezers and switched the wires. A soft beep came from the
machine and Sam grinned. Jenna winked at her cousin as she picked up the box and
put it to her ear. She nodded at Sam, who picked up a communicator.
"Go to the hallway," Sam instructed, and then waited for
Jenna to follow her orders. She flicked the switch and asked, "Can you hear me?"
"Hmm yes, but it is a bit muffled. Change the frequency,"
Jenna's voice came over the speaker, crackling.
Checking the box, Sam fine-tuned it, and then said, "How
about now?"
"Sounds good!" Jack's voice came over, startling Sam, who
blinked with a laugh as she heard her cousin giggling over the other end as
well. The door opened and Jenna came in, followed by the rest of the SG-1 team
as well as Hammond.
Jenna bounced over and giggled. "Now we can work on the
microscopic version!" she declared happily as she hugged her cousin.
Snickering, Sam nodded. "Sounds good. But I know I have to
go on a mission soon," she said, smiling sadly as Jenna's face fell.
"Oh," Jenna whispered softly, and then perked up. "Can I
come?"
"Uh…I don't know, Jenna," Sam replied hesitantly as she
glanced at the four men with them.
"Prolly not, kiddo. Sorry 'bout that," Jack replied amiably
as he sauntered over.
"Actually, with your next mission, she is indeed supposed
to go. PCR390 is the next site and I'd like her to get used to going through the
star gate," Hammond said as he bounced on the balls of his feet.
"Really!? Oh thank you!" Jenna cried as she jumped up and
down excitedly.
"Are you sure that this is the right thing to do, General?"
Jack asked warily as he watched the two cousins talking excitedly. "Untrained
civilians are always a problem," he commented with a glance at Daniel, who
watched the two women unknowingly.
"She'll be fine since she's had her own training. Besides,
she and Major Carter need to work on their plans for the new communications
system. And, because she will be involved deeply with the medical teams, I want
her to get the best training on the Star gate travel…and that would be with your
team," Hammond replied amiably, smirking.
"I think it would be fun," Daniel input as he caught the
last bit of the exchange.
"You would," Jack grumbled with a roll of his eyes. He
sighed as Jenna pouted at him. "Fine fine! All right, we brief at 0800 hours
tomorrow and leave then at 1200 hours," he ordered firmly, hiding a smirk as
Jenna nodded enthusiastically.
"Oh this'll be so fun!" Jenna cried as she bounced over to
the counter and began focusing on the communicator, humming softly.
Jack cocked an eyebrow at the others and stated, "Well! I
guess 0800 it is!" He shrugged and shook his head as he walked out, followed by
a silently amused Hammond, a chuckling Daniel, and a curious Teal'c. Sam just
snickered as she shook her head, and then went over to help her cousin, knowing
she would need to explain some things.
*~~**~~*
"I'm so excited! Oh…to be off world…OHOH I wonder if we'll
meet anyone!" Jenna was bouncing next to Sam as her cousin dialed in the
address.
"First we have to get the MALP's readings," Sam explained
with a grin as she turned her head. She laughed as Jenna squealed in delight as
the Star gate activated.
"You'd think she'd just won a million dollars," Jack
murmured to Teal'c, who cocked an eyebrow and tilted his head in amusement.
"To her it may be that, O'Neill," Teal'c commented in
amusement before the focused forward to watch the 'scout' go in first.
"Receiving feedback, sir," the operator reported
efficiently as he and Carter tapped away at their keyboards.
"Put it on screen," Hammond ordered with a nod and they all
looked over at one of the screens above the main window.
Slowly, an image formed, showing trees and hills around.
"Oh it's so lovely!" Jenna cooed softly, before a strange look came over her
face. 'And…so familiar,' she wondered before shaking herself.
"Readings are coming in positive, sir. It's safe to go,"
Carter declared as she glanced at her screen repeatedly. She blinked, and then
looked up as did the others, looking at the screen in surprise.
A figure came into view, smiling softly as it bent down a
bit. It bowed its head regally, and then a soft voice was heard over the
speakers. "You are much awaited, young ones. Come and visit us soon."
Looking at each other in surprise, the members didn't know
what to say right away. Hammond then leaned in and spoke into the microphone
that was linked to the machine. "And to whom are we speaking?"
"A friend of the race of Man. We have long awaited your
coming to visit us, young one. Come soon," the figure answered gently with a
nod, causing long dark hair to shift over a slender shoulder. The feed was
suddenly cut as the Star gate shut down.
"Well...he seemed human," Daniel commented as silence
descended on the surprised group.
"How do you know it is a he, Daniel Jackson?" Teal'c asked
as he cocked an eyebrow at his friend.
"Well I uh...didn't have any uh..." Daniel trailed off
flustered as he gestured to his chest. When Teal'c just cocked his head in
amusement, he cleared his throat. "Didn't look like a female," he finally
muttered before rubbing his neck in embarrassment as Sam and Jenna giggled
softly.
"They seem friendly enough. And they knew about humans,"
Jenna commented as she looked hopefully at Hammond.
"Right. Suit up and get going. Your mission is even more
important now if we can gain allies," Hammond stated with a firm nod. The group
nodded in agreement and headed out to get ready, both excited and perturbed on
what might come.
*~~**~~*
"Oh WOW! That was so cool!!" Jenna's ecstatic voice floated
out over the blowing field that they walked upon from the star gate. She bounced
excitedly next to Sam as she looked around. "Oh it looks so much like Earth! But
so much cleaner!" she whispered excitedly to Sam, who grinned at her.
"O'Neill. I've found the MALP," Teal'c called out as he
stood near the scout as he glanced around. He suddenly whirled around, staff
weapon open and charged as they all heard a voice.
"Welcome, Children of Arda. Or in your language...Earth."
They all turned to see a small group of people that were dressed much like the
one that had greeted their scout, with that one in the front, hands out held in
greeting. "Welcome...to Valinor."
